10 (pain-free) items you can declutter from your kitchen now 💫

Hey Reader! Does the thought of decluttering fill you with dread?

When you open your kitchen cabinets, is there an avalanche of stuff every time?

I'm going to try to make this process as easy as possible.

Here are 10 stress-free, guilt-free items that you can declutter from your kitchen right now:

  1. Expired Products - go through all your spices (including those random packets that you have in the back of the cupboard), your pantry items, etc. I bet you have more than one item that is expired.
  2. Unused Cookbooks - if you're anything like me, you love collecting cookbooks. All of the recipes look so good, but then they just end up sitting on a shelf or in a cupboard unused.
  3. Chipped mugs, dishes, and glasses - if you have any chipped dishes, mugs, or glasses, you should get rid of them as it can be hazardous to continue to use.
  4. Mismatched Tupperware - if you have Tupperware that is missing a lid or a bunch of lids that don't have a matching bottom, it's time to get rid of them.
  5. Takeout Menus - still holding onto takeout menus from restaurants? It's time to get rid of them. Restaurants have their menus posted on their websites nowadays.
  6. Broken Gadgets - any items you have hanging around that you thought you would try to fix eventually? Just get rid of them. I had a cookie scoop that kept breaking every other time I used it, I finally just got rid of it and got a new one.
  7. Old Dish Towels and Pot Holders - if you're still holding onto old, torn, or stained dish towels or pot holders, here's your reminder to get rid of them.
  8. Plastic Grocery Bags - if you have cats or dogs and use them to collect their poop or clean the cat litter bin then it's fine to keep some around. Have a designed space for the ones that you'll use and once that's full take the rest to a store to be recycled. Places like Walmart, Target, and Meijer (most grocery stores) have a bin at the front of the store or entrance to put plastic bags in. It's also much more environmentally friendly to use reusable bags. You can purchase inexpensive reusable bags at most grocery stores.
  9. Excess Water Bottles - With kids bringing water bottles to school now and wanting new ones every year after a while it's easy to build up quite a stash. Go through the water bottles that you have and if there are any with missing lids or straws or ones that you know your kids don't reach for anymore, just get rid of them. Don't save stuff for those 'just in case' moments. I say keep no more than one extra for each child and the rest you can get rid of.
  10. Duplicates - If you have multiple spatulas, wooden spoons, whisks, etc. then it's time to donate some, unless you are constantly entertaining and/or baking the chances of needing more than two of each is highly unlikely.

If you have a hard time decluttering even simple things, like the items I listed above; then I suggest still 'decluttering' them from your kitchen, but if you can't bring yourself to 'say goodbye' just yet put them in an opaque box and label it for 6 months from now.

Put the box in another room, preferably one that is far away from the kitchen, and if you don't open that box in 6 months donate it. Don't even open it to see what's inside if it's been 6 months, just automatically get rid of it.

I hope you've found these helpful and I can't wait to hear about your decluttering adventures 😊

Be sure to stick around as the next place we'll be decluttering is the junk drawer and pantry.
